Connecticut History Day
It was a bright and sunny morning as excited middle & high-schoolers made their way over to The Central Connecticut State University Campus for Connecticut History Day’s State Competition! CHD is one of 58 affiliate programs of National History Day. CHD annually engages thousands of students in historical research, interpretation, and creative expression through project based learning. The program seeks to bring students, teachers, museums, and scholars together to support young people as they engage in history. The event is led by the Connecticut Democracy Center.
Students who finish in the top three at one of six Regional Competitions are invited to the State Contest. Students have improved their projects based on feedback received from judges at the Regional Contests. History Day is an ongoing program, which encourages students to continually expand their learning as they progress through the contest season.
The State contest is a day full of students presenting their projects! But most of all celebrating their hard work!
In addition featuring fun food trucks and live music. Additionally including visits from some of the sweetest therapy dogs! Including Gizmo, a therapy dog that has spent his whole life providing support to those in need. This day was furthermore a display of some of the mot supportive peers! It was amazing to see all the students cheer each other on! Meanwhile judges work tirelessly to decipher the very best of the best projects! The event concludes with the Awards Ceremony to name the top projects in each category.
Students who finish in the top two at the State Contest are eligible to represent Connecticut at the National Contest. The National Contest will take place in June at the University of Maryland.
