COVID-19 Wedding

It has been a wild seven months since March when COVID-19 changed all of our lives. While most of us were packing up our desks and work stations at the office and uncovering those catch-all desks at home; one special couple was days away from getting married! Some of you may remember Stephanie and Mike from their Boston Engagement Shoot! At that time, we would have never predicted they would be having a “COVID-19 Wedding.”

COVID-19 has changed so much of everyone’s lives. However, there is an immense amount of uncertainty brought to those planning weddings during this time. When we met Stephanie and Michael for their engagement shoot and spoke of their wedding plans, one thing was for sure they had a large group of family and friends that were going to join them for their special day. As the situation with the Coronavirus unfolded, these two had to change their wedding date and their guest list numerous times. Their March 28th wedding was no longer a reality. Finally, they decided on May 28th for a quaint ceremony with their immediate families in their church and dinner to follow at Stephanie’s parents’ house. Their big reception with all their friends and family is still to come in November 2021!

Although it was not what they had imagined for their wedding day, it was extraordinary and perfect in every way. We met Stephanie and Mike at the church before the ceremony, and love and excitement were in the air! Stephanie smiled from ear to ear as she prepared to walk down the aisle with her dad. When Michael saw his future wife coming towards him, he could not have been happier! They exchanged rings and shared their first kiss as husband and wife, then recessed down the aisle and out of the church. Family pictures took place in front of the church, and then they were on their way to Stephanie’s parents’ house for their intimate “reception.” However, Stephanie’s mom had a special surprise waiting for them! She had arranged for a large portion of their “supposed to be guests” to drive by and congratulate the newlyweds!

Once they arrived home, Stephanie’s dad opened some champagne, and Stephanie and Michael were overcome with joy as all their favorite people started driving past! Soon a line of cars had formed! All were waiting to see the bride and groom and offer their congratulations from a safe distance! There were cheers, tears, and just an overwhelming amount of love from everyone!

Soon the parade out front started to dissipate. Stephanie and Michael posed for some portraits on the side of the house. Then they headed to the backyard to share their first dance. After their first dance they each danced with their parents right out by the pool. Then they cranked the music up and danced all together until it was time to head inside. Once inside, they enjoyed wine and dinner to finish off a perfect wedding in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was amazing to be a part of such a special moment for this couple. Especially amidst such a discouraging and uncertain time in the world. We can not wait until 2021 to celebrate this couple some more!

Ceremony Location: St. Thomas the Apostle – West Hartford
